The City of St. Augustine

Is the oldest continuously occupied European-established settlement and port in the continental United States. According to the 2010 census, the city population was 12,975. The St. Augustine urban area has a population of 69,173.

San Agustín was founded in September 1565 by Spanish admiral Pedro Menéndez de Avilés, and subsequently served as the capital of Spanish Florida for two hundred years

From Interstate 95 , North or South (exit #318 at State Road 16)

Proceed east on State Road 16 and turn right onto US Highway 1/Ponce de Leon Boulevard south. Head to West Castillo Drive and turn left at the stoplight. Go to next stoplight and turn right onto San Marco Avenue/Avenida Menendez. Proceed along the bayfront to the second stoplight at Cathedral Place (directly west of the Bridge of Lions) and turn right. This street is one-way so stay in the right lane and proceed to Cordova Street. Turn right onto Cordova Street and Hanke Hall is the third building on the right, 63 Cordova Street.

Jacksonville (1 hr) and Orlando International (2 hrs) airports are the closest to St. Augustine

America's Best College Town

St. Augustine, home of Flagler College, was recently ranked No. 7 in Travel + Leisure magazine’s list of best college towns in America.

“Thanks to its oldest-city-in-the-country claim to fame—not to mention 43 miles of beaches—this coastal town has long been a favorite among tourists,” said the city’s listing. “But it’s the mix of the old and the new that makes St. Augustine so interesting.”

“This is a huge honor for St. Augustine and Flagler College to be considered one of the top 10 best college towns in America, especially as we continue to celebrate the 125th anniversary of the former Hotel Ponce de Leon,” said Flagler College President William T. Abare, Jr., Ed.D. “We’re proud to be such an important part of the Nation’s Oldest City.”

First on this year’s list was Burlington, Vt., home of the University of Vermont. All cities on the list were voted upon by readers of Travel + Leisure magazine.

Flagler College

Founded in 1968 as a women college. Today it is a four year, co-educational, residential,

independent, and nonsectarian educational institution.

Flagler College is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges to award baccalaureate degrees.

Enrollment (Fall 2012) was 2,588 students; 1,035 men and 1,553 women. Approximately 63% of the students are from Florida, while the remaining students come from 43 other states and 52 foreign countries.
